Monster Baby Bibs!

I've got bibs. Lots of them. They're starting to pile up around here, so maybe I should start posting them in my etsy shop. Oh look at that, I did!

I have a bunch more photographed too. So I promise there'll be more up ere long as well.

I'm also thinking about putting together some "Baby Shower Gift Packages" too. It's getting to be that season. So, if you have any ideas, what would you like to see in terms of baby shower presents grouped together? For example, a bib and frog monster. I have made some little booties in the past too. And I'm open to just about anything that could be monster related.

Baby Presents

My sister received her virtual baby shower gifts, so I can now share it with everyone else.

I'm very excited to have a new baby coming into our family, and not just because of all the cute things that I can make.

Here's the package that I sent her. Along with this nerdy poster and a few onesies.

The Zap Monster is named The Wonderful Mr. Dibb and he's the same color as the backing of the bib.

And a close up of the little booties. The pattern is free here.

Finished a Custom Order

I finished a cute Cat In The Hat Bib today for a toddler's birthday party. It came out really cute I think. I'm especially pleased with the embroidery.

My spring is really starting to come together. I'll update you soon on new places you can find me. I might even go back up to Ithaca for the Spring Festival this year. Need to find a place to stay first though.

I also have a contest to post about (soon, I promise!).

And well Saturday (tomorrow) is Valentine's Day. So I'll be ignoring you all so that I can spend time with my husband as I ignore him for work/monsters/etc so many other times. We're going to spend some of the playing with paper and making Valentine's for each other.

My New Light Box

I take most of my photos in the hallway on the staircase. I get good diffuse light from the skylight and I think it gives my monsters some character, as if they're real breathing creatures posing for the camera.

But, it has it's limitation. Pictures are best on bright sunny days and usually in the middle of the day, when the sun is directly over head. In addition to this small window of time, not everything I want to photograph really works in this environment. I've been trying to find creative solutions to the problems, but mostly I've just ignored the problems and only photographed those things that work best on the stairs during the best hours.

But no longer! I now have myself a brand spanking new light box. I spent some time playing with it today. I still have some figuring out to do, but I'm pretty happy. It comes with fully adjustable bright, full spectrum lights, four different backgrounds, and a cool camera stand (definitely more than a tripod).

Here are some photos I took using my new toy.

Another baby shower, another monster present.

There's something about this time of year and the number of baby showers that I'm invited to. I finally finished the presents for yet another baby shower, a coworker of my husband's is expecting in February.

I found the cutest little free baby booties pattern on HomeSpun Threads. They worked out so well, that I'm thinking I might make a few more pairs (wondering if they would size up well for adults).

I matched up the adorable little kimono style booties with a bib and a meeba monster.

They don't know the sex of the baby, so they asked for gender neutral colors. I'm out of pale yellow fleece, so I hope red is gender neutral enough for them. I have heard that red is one of the first colors that babies recognize. And certainly red toys sell well.

When trial and error leads mostly to error.

I feel like things are somehow returning to normal after crazy holidays and then vacation. Apparently the monsters did really well at Christmas time. Makes me realize that I really need to plan for that and make like crazy until then so I have more stock.

What little monsters are left after the insanity had a little photo shoot (by that I mean several hours of photographing, and I have barely started editing the results) yesterday. But there are some things I still can't seem to photograph to up to my standards. Bibs.

Do you lovely readers even realize that I make bibs. I sell them like crazy at fairs. But I can't seem to photograph them. I don't have a child to put them on. I don't have a light box. They just look funny on a teddy bear. I'd love some suggestions.
