Clay, Wood & Cotton

My friend Kristen opened her new store, Clay, Wood & Cotton, in Beacon NY last month.

I was so happy that she asked for some monsters to put in her store. So you can now buy monsters in Beacon.

This is a great time to head up there as all the foliage is changing and visit a funky, artsy town. Highly recommended (it's not far on the LIRR).

If you're in town anyway, hope you'll visit my friend and the monsters. She has a nice selection of monster making kits, if you know you're curious.

Moving is hard work.

I haven't forgotten about you. Things are moving pretty fast here as we come up on our move out date (Sept 17th). And most of it is unrelated to monsters so I just haven't had much to report.

Things of note:

Finishing up as many monsters as possible to send out to stores that request them. This way my inventory usually reserved for selling at shows will all be in stores across the US. Yeah, you heard me. Check out my website where I have a nice list of stores that carry my monsters. And two new ones will be up there before the move date. So watch for that (Ohio and Beacon, NY).

Kataplin has requested a supply of monsters again this year to accompany their awesome shirts at their booths at both Union Square and Columbus Circle this December.

I'm still looking to travel lighter. So please help me by buying some monsters, I even have a sale section up in my etsy shop.

I'm also selling my possessions on Craig's List. If you live in NYC, you should definitely be following me on Twitter as I post there when I put something new up on Craig's List. Well actually you should be following me on twitter anyway, this is just an added bonus. I'll also give you details about the Stoop Sale I'm having on Sept 12th. Write that in your calendars now. Sept 12th. Come buy my stuff so I don't have to move it.

More monster news soon. Promise. Moving is a lot of work though.

The monsters have a new temporary home. Artez'n, a most excellent store in Brooklyn, NY has taken the monsters. If you're looking for a great place to buy unusual and excellent gifts, this is the place. Everything there is made in Brooklyn and with the love and quality you expect from handmade. They also have classes, events, and more.

Hip Hip Hooray!

Wee! My new camera arrived today. After dancing around for a little while taking pictures of random things,

I finally used the camera for monster related things.

Allow me to introduce Mars:

Mars refuses to wear glasses, but his vision is quite skewed. He prefers to look at you from the left eye than the right and is constantly squinting and swaying back and forth as he talks to you just so that you stay focused in his field of vision. Every time someone brings him glasses they are conveniently “lost”.

Don’t let his idiosyncrasies fool you; he’s really quite smart. Mars is only 4, and has an unusually high IQ.

You can, as always, find Mars along with the rest of the gang in my etsy store.

Oh and one last thing... you may notice a few new stores which are now selling my monsters on the side bar. If you live in New Mexico, check out Cutie Pie Boutique in Albequerque. If you're in Illinois, you should definitely go to Granite City to visit The Cat's Meow.

Starr, Beautiful Bunny Monster

Starr is a beautiful bunny monster, as she’s fond of telling me. Her eyes glow with excitement when she’s the center of attention and her fur… er fabric… sparkles when the light hits it just right. She’s looking for just the right home where she can be treated as the center of the universe, which of course she is. She’ll put on dance recitals and plays for you, if only you’ll pay attention.

You can find Starr in my etsy store along with a whole slew of new monsters.

A few bits of news:
I'm looking for new stores to sell my monsters either in Brooklyn or Manhattan, or a rep. If anyone has any contacts in this area, I would love to talk to you.

I'm selling at Artists & Fleas tomorrow from Noon to 7pm over in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, come say hi!

AND... My case for appealing the fine and citation from selling monsters at Union Square has been dismissed! On a technicality, so I'm still not art that is allowed sell at the park, but I don't have to pay a fine! *does a little monster dance*

On Vacation until January 1, 2008

Happy Holidays to everyone!

We're on vacation. My husband and I selected a few special monsters to travel with us and we're off to mai tai's and sunny beaches.

We will not be reachable in any way. So please don't try.

A few things to tide you over until we return....

I've been steadfastly making christmas presents that I am so excited for, but cannot post here because I hate to ruin a good surprise. However, a few presents have been delivered early...

A Monster Ornament, for Omi & Opa

Last Sunday the monsters and I had a blast at the Red Tent Holiday Bazaar. The Red Tent has been a faithful friend now for almost a year (they've been open 2 years now), but they're going mobile. So if you're in New York, you should check out their amazing space before they leave it.

Today I went to defend my monsters as art to the NYC parks department. In a month, we'll find out whether I have to pay a fine or not. In the meantime, I'm going to forget all that and go on vacation.

Don't get into too much mischief while I'm gone. And if you find yourself wanting a monster, Kataplin at the Columbus Circle Holiday Market and Roger & Dave in the West Village both have some of my monsters.

The lovelies shown above just moved into their new temporary home today. They are now pending adoption from the Brooklyn Mercantile.

Brooklyn, NY 11215

If you have any interest in hand-made goods (even furniture) or crafting supplies, you should visit the Brooklyn Mercantile. It's a fairly new shop, but their prices are pretty good and the store is like an overload of beauty.

Road Trip!

This week a few of the monsters and I went on a trip on the subway. The bunnies were less rambunctious than I gave them credit for. But that may have only been due to the fact they were all squished together in my bag.

Anita: I can't breath down here.

*shuffle shuffle*

Pirate Mouse: Aargh!

Ember: Someone just bit me!

Wallace: That better be an ear...

And so it was all the way into the city for our meeting at Roger & Dave, this great little shop in the West Village. Their 8th Ave shop (between 21st & 22nd) is now selling a few of my monsters. If they do well, then they'll start carrying them. Hooray!
